We all know eating well and exercising does a body good: It yields a slimmer waistline, a stronger physique, and a lower risk of diseases, like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. But, what many don't know is, eating well and exercising also affects the mind. It helps us perform better in our work space and improves executive brain functions. It is the best approach for being more productive and higher-order thinking.

           INCORPORATING VARIETY

 

Variety is defined as "the quality or state of having different forms or types". Unfortunately, many trainers and athletes follow a narrow-minded approach to fitness. These individuals select a sole training modality. They reap the benefits of one style, while ignoring, and often discrediting, the effectiveness of all others. Mix it up, incorporate variety, and have fun.

           MUSCLE TONE

 

Before you start obsessing over the hard math of macronutrient calculation, make sure you've got your dietary priorities in place. Eight words: Eat quality food. Increase your protein. Train hard - while these rules may seem obvious, here's the catch... The order they are in matters! As a Sports Scientist you'd better believe I can tell you the numbers, but I'd prefer to tell you the priorities, because the way I break it down for everyone will be different.

           CORE STRENGTH

 

The core is a collection of muscles which stabilize and move the spine. Close to the spine and deep inside the abdomen is the inner core, which is comprised of the diaphragm, pelvic floor, multifidi, deep cervical flexors, and transverse abdominus. These strange-sounding muscles engage first during movement or breathing to protect the spine.
